The Benefits of Dog Assisted Therapy

The effectiveness of DAT has been proven worldwide in the treatment of various medical and psychological disorders such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral paralysis, addictions, parenting patterns and practices, among others.

Our project aims to implement and provide this alternative in our country and department to children who are in conditions of social vulnerability, and also will provide the same service to individuals in the city of Medellín. We make the DAT available to children victims of war and forced displacement as a different proposal of psycho-emotional recovery and intervention, thus changing traditional treatment techniques for a novel and effective technique.

The DAT will enable the children in the Foundation Las Golondrinas, who have been victims of child abuse to regain their confidence in themselves and in others through the animal co-therapist, as he gives them unconditional support and affection, which is what children who have suffered abuse and domestic violence need most, on the other hand, the motivation for working with a dog enriches the therapeutic process.
